Peru: Pisco production no longer profitable in Arequipa region

The President of the ProPisco Association of Arequipa has stated that pisco production is no longer financially viable due to international pricing challenges.

"Pisco is currently being exported to the United States at 32 soles (€8) per liter," the President noted, while also emphasizing the recent recognition of the spirit as a national cultural heritage by the Vice Minister of Industry.

The association highlighted that low international prices have reduced profitability, calling on authorities to launch a global promotional campaign. "For pisco to be profitable, a half-liter bottle should cost 50 soles (€13)," the President added.

The Arequipa region is home to around 25 pisco producers, mainly in La Joya, Vítor, Santa Rita de Siguas, the Majes Valley, Camaná, and Caravelí, with annual production exceeding one million liters.
