Cuba: Havana Club suffered millions in losses in 2024

According to the official newspaper Granma, Cuba’s Ministry of the Food Industry (MINAL) reported that eight of the nine products in the country’s basic food basket were imported.

In its 2024 annual report, authorities acknowledged that Havana Club recorded losses exceeding 38 million euros. A government meeting, chaired by President Miguel Díaz-Canel, highlighted the economic struggles of the sector and its reliance on imports, attributing the financial downturn to US sanctions.

Additionally, Cervecería Bucanero faced difficulties opening accounts abroad, which the government linked to banking restrictions caused by the US embargo.
