Metsä Board has announced a significant €60 million investment to modernise its Simpele folding boxboard mill, with the aim of boosting product quality, improving production efficiency, and reducing the environmental impact of its operations. The project, set to be completed by late 2025, will enhance the mill’s pre-drying and coating sections, enabling the company to produce higher-quality products with improved print consistency and reduced carbon emissions.
This upgrade is part of Metsä Board’s broader sustainability strategy, aligned with its goal of achieving fossil-free production across all mills by 2030. The investment is also expected to strengthen the company’s position in the premium food and healthcare packaging sectors. The modernisation is progressing on schedule, with the first visible work already underway, and the mill is set to resume full operations in the fourth quarter of 2025.
