In the last three decades, tequila has evolved from being a beverage consumed primarily in Mexico to becoming a global benchmark. However, maintaining that position on an international scale remains a complex challenge.
Miguel Ángel Domínguez Morales, president of the CRT, stated in a release: "It's not enough to have reached this point; we must now ensure that tequila remains relevant to new generations of consumers and that its production is sustainable over the long term."
In 1994, there were just 392 brands linked to an authorized producer. Today, that number has risen to 2,900, while the number of producers has increased from 37 to 205.
