Argentina: The grape harvest is the worst in more than 70 years

The Association of Independent Winegrowers (INV) has confirmed that the 2025 harvest will yield around 360 million kilos of grapes, marking the worst harvest in more than 70 years.

Although some national organizations highlight that the 2025 harvest surpassed that of 2024 — a notable improvement after several years of low yields — the INV figures reflect a significant shortfall compared to initial projections. Many leading wineries have also noted the better conditions compared to last year.

Initially, production had been forecast at 485 million kilos, about 10% higher than 2024. However, the INV now expects the final volume to be closer to 360 million kilos.

The decline in production has been attributed to hailstorms, an intense heat wave, and the Peronist plague, all of which have severely affected crops across the country.

According to the INV's weekly harvest report, as of March 30, around 329 million kilos had been harvested for wineries and another 28 million kilos for other uses, totaling approximately 360 million kilos. With only a few weeks left until the end of the harvest, an additional 2 to 3 million kilos may still be collected.
