United States: AB InBev adds "US farmed" labels to some of its beers

Created by the non-profit organization American Farmland Trust, the “US Farmed” label becomes a guarantee of food and beverages packaged with American inputs. The company AB InBev states that the first products that will include that label starting in May will be cans of Busch Light, Budweiser, Bud Light and Michelob Ultra.

To be labeled, at least 95 percent by weight of the product's contents must be grown in the US, excluding water, packaging and labeling. Checks will then be carried out by the American Farmland Trust certification commission. Anheuser-Busch CEO Brendan Whitworth said: “The US farmed certification takes our commitment to the next level, and we are proud to lead the industry in rallying behind American farmers to ensure the future of US agriculture, which is crucial to our country's economy”. To support this initiative, researchers at the University of Chicago found that after four products were forced to remove their "Made in USA" labels, weekly sales for three of the four plummeted.
