Mexico: The Tequila Regulatory Council to Support Traditional Agave Producers

To address the challenges agave producers face due to low plant prices, the tequila industry will support small producers who have dedicated themselves to this crop for decades through the "Agave Social Responsibility" (ARS) program.

The ARS certification, granted by the Tequila Regulatory Council (CRT), will identify traditional producers, providing them with industry recognition and support.

Roberto Ciprés Cruces, president of the National Chamber of the Tequila Industry (CNIT), stated: “For months, we have been working on developing the Agave Social Responsibility certification mark, a recognition that will connect qualified producers to the industry. This initiative will provide crucial support to those who have been integral to this production chain for years."

In the first stage, the CNIT and CRT plan to include traditional producers – those who cultivated agave between 1994 and 2017 and hold the Agave Responsable Ambiental (ARA) certification. In future stages, plantations registered after 2017 will be included.
